Workshop Manager
Salary £40,000 - £45,000
We are a young, fast-expanding communal joinery workshop seeking an experienced Workshop Manager to join our growing team. This is a key leadership role for a motivated and enthusiastic professional who thrives in a hands-on environment.
Benchspace was born out of a desire to create one of the best communal workshops in London - a space that goes beyond access to tools and machines.
Our vision is to establish a network of modern workshops that provide makers and startups with access to commercial-grade machinery, with a focus on continually enhancing production workflows through the use of CAD/CAM technologies. We believe a workshop should be more than just functional - it should be a clean, inspiring, and welcoming space where people feel good about the work they do and the environment they're in, working alongside their peers - sharing knowledge and inspiration.
The ideal candidate will have 3+ years' experience in a similar role within a joinery or manufacturing environment and a strong understanding of workshop-based production.

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities & Experience
coordinate all deliveries and store supplies
Avoid low workshop stock levels and prioritise ordering items on a long lead time
produce renter contracts
keep premises budget on track
ensure machines and premises is compliant with regulations
Open workshop and lock-up each day
must have joinery workshop management experience
must have experience in machine maintenance
must have excellent communication and negotiation skills
must have the ability to work under pressure
must have experiences in joinery manufacture and production
must be flexible and able to multitask
must be a self-starter and able to take responsibility
must have the ability to build effective professional relationships with the renters and our suppliers
must be a driven, organised and a motivated team player in a fast-paced team
must have a proficiency in Microsoft Office
fluent in English
must have legal right to work in UK

Job Responsibilities

Workshop & Premises Management
Maintain machinery, ensure they are always clean and maintenance logs are updated
Make sure workshop and communal areas are well maintained
Report any issues to Directors
Weekly fire alarm testing & log
Check fire escapes clear
Rota implementation & checking it's been done (Kitchen and workshop clean)
Consumable stock and waste is managed - Goods Out area should be clean, clear and organised
Keep control of offcuts, manage who's they are and keep areas clear, offcuts cut
Saw blade sharpening
Extractors - weekly LEV check & log - areas clean and clear
Forklift daily check & maintain water levels etc
Fire daily check
Maintain material stock racks and regularly sort
Manage spray booth and keep clean and tidy
Be able to add and remove joinery in communal areas to ensure they're fit for purpose
All COSHH correctly stored
Machine shop inductions, with all documentation logged and filed and set up weekly toolbox talks
