The Trust is looking for Visitor Services Assistants to work at Anne Hathaway's Cottage and Shakespeare's Birthplace.

The contract is from Monday 3 November 2025 to Sunday 15 March 2026. There are three types of part-time fixed term contracts available, 23, 17.25 and 11.5 hours per week, which equates to 4, 3 and 2 days.

As Visitor Services Assistant you will provide consistently high standards of visitor care at all times, from the moment of arrival through the entrance, exhibition, garden and house, to the final point of departure, ensuring every visitor has a safe and enjoyable experience.

To be successful in this role, you will have experience of working in a public or visitor facing role, agile and flexible to what is required, committed to providing excellent customer service, IT literate and able to confidently operate till and ticketing systems, and used to working as part of a team.

Anne Hathaway's Cottage and Shakespeare's Birthplace will be open seven days a week 10.00am to 4.00pm, and you will be required to work weekdays, alternate weekends and a fair share of Bank Holidays so you should be flexible and available. There will also be a requirement to work out of hours events.

Job Requirements

  • Experience of working in a public or visitor facing role
  • A good standard of education
  • IT literate with the ability to confidently operate till and ticketing systems.
  • Confident handling cash and other payment methods
  • Experience of working to achieve team and individual targets.
  • Ability to prioritise and make decisions under pressure.
  • Approachable with good listening and communication skills
  • Positive and enthusiastic about working with the public.
  • Proactive, self-motivated and adaptable with a good level of fitness due to long periods of standing
  • Team player, able to work alongside a wide range of colleagues.
  • Able to work flexibly to accommodate the requirements of an uncertain and ambiguous environment.
  • Comfortable working across a variety of visitor areas and work locations
  • Willingness to try new things and test different ways of working.

Job Responsibilities

  • Administering an efficient admissions process, capturing all essential visitor information, for health and safety compliance, and for the re-engagement of our visitors post visit.
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and organisational policies and procedures for fire, health and safety, COVID-19, security, and cash handling.
  • Understanding your own role in the emergency plans for all areas of the site, including the Disaster Recovery Plans.
  • Understanding of the different visitor types and their needs and expectations when visiting a heritage site.
  • Encouraging visitors to use the onsite interaction tools to further their experience on site.
  • Sharing key information in a timely manner with our visitors, while not impacting dwelling time restrictions for the site.
  • Working with colleagues to enhance the experience for visitors, ensuring consistent and effective service delivery at all times.
  • Being a role model for the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust values.
