Job Summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and engaging person – or two individuals as part of a job share – to support the smooth running of our Music Centre and back-office operations, helping deliver a welcoming, safe and inclusive environment for young musicians.

Job Description

  • Employed, term-time only

  • £14.20 per hour (plus 17.5% holiday allowance)

  • 30-hours per week (Hours Per Week, 11 Weeks per Academic Term: Mondays 3pm - 9:30pm, Tuesdays 11 am - 7pm, Fridays 9:30am - 5:30pm, Saturdays 7:30am - 3:30pm)

Merton Music Foundation is a vibrant and inclusive Music Education Hub serving children and young people across the London Borough of Merton. Our vision is a borough where music resonates along the corridors of every school and echoes throughout the community.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and engaging individual - or individuals - to play a key role in the seamless operation of our Music Centre and main office in South Wimbledon. As office assistant, you will support the smooth running of MMF's back-office processes, ensuring an orderly working environment and contacting customers to arrange instrumental and vocal lessons. As a steward, you'll be the welcoming face of the centre, managing sign-ins, assisting with equipment set up and breakdown, and ensuring the smooth opening and closing of our sites.

We will enable you to develop new skills in a supportive and dynamic working environment. No formal qualifications are required; we will provide you with training and support to ensure you thrive.

Job Requirements

  • Greet visitors and manage sign-in procedures at the Music Centre.
  • Assist in the set up and pack down of Music Centre equipment, instruments & Furniture.
  • Support the overall operation of the site, including adherence to health and safety protocols.
  • Open up and close Music Centre sites, ensuring security measures are followed.
  • Ensure a welcoming, inclusive and safe environment for anybody attending a Music Centre.
  • Act as a Fire Marshall in the event of emergency evacuation of the site, including undertaking relevant training and adhering to the Foundation's Health & Safety and Emergency Evacuation procedures.

Job Responsibilities

Essential

  • Proactive and enthusiastic attitude.
  • A passion for music.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.

Desirable

  • Ability to handle and set up musical equipment.
  • Previous experience in a stewarding or customer-facing role is highly desirable.
