Job Summary

We are looking for a Marketing Director to develop and lead the implementation of a wide-ranging marketing strategy, promoting the Made in Fenland Programme, including individual projects, performances and exhibitions, as well as the multi-arts Festival in the summer of 2027.

Job Description

Made in Fenland is our Place Partnership Project. It is a collaborative, multi-year initiative focused on supporting cultural development, creative collaboration and community regeneration across Fenland, Cambridgeshire.

The project brings together a wide range of arts organisations, civic partners, and community groups to build capacity and create long-term cultural infrastructure, and to deliver a multi-arts festival programme in summer 2027.

A partnership of thirteen (mix of organisations & freelancers), are overseen by the Strategic Group.

Marketing Budget and Commitment

  • We anticipate a continued Marketing role across the project, subject to review of progress, agreement and funding.
  • Remote/homeworking
  • Some travel to Fenland may be required for key meetings and events with travel expenses paid
  • This role will be required to work with both the Freelance Fundraiser and Freelance Evaluator to ensure there is synergy and that work is complementary.
  • This role may be worked flexibly across the full term of the contract, with commitment increasing as we reach closer to the summer 2027 festival period.
  • The Marketing Director will be supported by a Marketing Manager role, recruited separately later in 2026
  • The marketing budget for the project is provisionally set at £76,750
  • The contract and ways of working are open to negotiation.

People who are up for the challenge of working with a large and diverse partnership, and are ready to get excited by spending the next two years delivering the first Made in Fenland festival. You will be leading on branding and promotion for the project, and be keen to work closely with all the partners to ensure it is aligned. We are looking for skilled marketing minds that are interested in leading on this and whilst understanding of the challenges, are ready to bring joy to telling our story creatively.

Job Requirements

Essential Criteria:

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across multiple organisations and sectors.
  • Ability to work independently and manage deadlines across a long-term project.
  • Understanding of place-based cultural development and community engagement.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of arts marketing in rural areas, beyond cities and large organisations.
  • Familiarity with the context and opportunities of rural or under served areas of the UK, like Fenland.
  • Experience supporting multi-partner projects or cross-sectoral initiatives.


Contract Type: Fixed Fee Freelance or PAYE


Option 1 Freelance (Part-time): 160 days across a 24-month contract for a total fee of £40,000 (inclusive of all freelancer costs and any relevant taxes managed by the freelancer). Monthly days flexible due to project needs with agreement & review with manager.
Option 2 PAYE Fixed Term Contract: £40,000 FTE salary on a 0.5 contract (2.5 days per week), fixed term 24 months.

Job Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively across a diverse network of stakeholders to ensure alignment and shared benefit.
  • Provide regular updates on progress, including regular meetings with the project partners (these may be virtual).
  • Developing a website and Social Media profile to market the Made in Fenland Programme
  • Content creation to market all Arts Strands, in partnership with the Arts Strand Leads.
  • Lead on producing promotional material and content creation for the 2027 Festival
