Attenborough Arts Centre is currently seeking 2 freelance artists across 2 different disciplines to join our learning team for 6 months as artists in residence. In response to consultation with children and their families, we are inviting proposals from dance/music and visual artists looking to create and deliver inclusive and exciting workshops for children and young people with complex needs and disabilities and their families, particularly those who are able to work in an interdisciplinary way. Context Attenborough Arts Centres Inclusive Youth Arts Programme (IYAP) provides much needed opportunities for children and young people with complex needs and disabilities to be creative outside of school, promoting their wellbeing and enjoyment of being with others. All our workshops and performances are free to people from Leicester and Leicestershire who register on our programme. We have two strands to the programme: We are seeking artists that are open and collaborative, able to design process focused activity with multiple entry points to ensure inclusive access for all participants. Our participants have requested a range of art forms including, dance, music and visual art. They would also like sensory play sessions and sessions taking place outdoors. We welcome applications from artists who are able to work across disciplines and combine art forms. Workshops can be linked to, and inspired by our wider programme. This includes the exhibitions in our galleries, theatre/what's on programme and other festivals and events. We are seeking artists who are open to working collaboratively with the project coordinator to design sessions which respond to the needs of our families. Fees and commitment Total fee: £1,500* We would like the chosen artist/s to work with both the under and over 18s age group. Job Description
Our programme takes place at weekends and during school holidays. Children on our programme have lived experience of disabilities and complex needs that require a range of sensory and person-centred approaches so they can participate in the arts: including but not limited to PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties), Autism, ADHD (Attention Deficiency Hyperactive Disorder), Auditory, speech and visual impairments, Down's Syndrome and Global Developmental Delay.
