Job Summary

Oxford House are recruiting for a part time Heritage Trainee (9 month contract) to support our Made in the East End programme. Salary: London Living Wage of £14.80 per hour, 21 hours per week (3 days a week based on 7 hours a day plus an unpaid lunch break of 1 hour).

About the Project
Made in the East End is an initiative funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) and delivered by Oxford House. We are bringing our community together to learn, exchange ideas and create new public artworks, writing and performances. Responding to local history and to our archive, residents, artists, writers and performers are exploring and celebrating four strands of work: East End Textile Heritage, Radical Working-Class Writing, Community Curators and an artist residency for British Somali creatives.

The Role
Working closely with the Arts & Heritage Producer and Community Heritage Co-ordinator, this is an exciting opportunity to develop skills in planning, delivery, and evaluation of arts and heritage activities.

The ideal candidate will have experience and interest in visual storytelling and creating engaging digital content to support Made in the East End delivery and grow participation.

The successful candidate will receive mentoring opportunities and specialised training to support their future development and career progression once this project is completed.

Learning & Development:
As well as building upon content creation skills, the postholder will gain development in the following areas:

  • Arts and heritage programming
  • Interpretation
  • Conservation care
  • Evaluation and reporting
  • Project management and administration
  • Teamworking

Training Opportunities:

  • Monthly mentoring session with the Arts and Heritage team
  • Professional Development training and access to GEM courses, training and events, including learning resources, conferences and talks
  • Mandatory Training such as Risk Assessment training, Safeguarding training and Fire Evacuation Training

Job Requirements

Skills and Experience:

  • Positive and open attitude to learning and skills development
  • Organised and reliable with good time management
  • A team player with a positive approach to relationship building and collaboration
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Problem solving skills
  • Computer literacy including MS Office packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience creating content for social media and digital platforms particularly Instagram and blogs/newsletters
  • A passion for heritage, arts and culture with a particular interest in social practice and participatory work
  • A commitment to inclusion and accessibility and a passion for working with diverse communities
  • An interest in keeping up to date with industry best practice
  • Ability to work occasional weekends and outside of conventional working hours as required to support programme delivery

Job Responsibilities

  • To support with arrangements of, and practical delivery of, internal and external activities including exhibitions, workshops and events
  • To create engaging content to promote programme activity and grow participation
  • To support the work of colleagues, community participants and external stakeholders
  • To support in the research for projects and final exhibitions as required
  • To carry out administration duties including record keeping, monitoring and general organisation needed to deliver a complex heritage participation programme
  • To contribute to evaluation processes
  • To contribute to meetings including minute/note taking and following up on actions
  • To carry out any other tasks necessary to ensure the project is successful
