Barnsley Civic is seeking a dynamic and experienced General Manager to help deliver our strategic vision, oversee governance, HR, financial management, data & evaluation and play a key role in developing in-house productions.

Job Description

Barnsley Civic is seeking a dynamic and experienced General Manager. You will work closely with the CEO & Artistic Director and the rest of Senior Leadership Team to deliver our strategic vision, grow revenue through commercial hires and F&B operations, and diversify income streams.

This pivotal role involves overseeing governance, HR, financial management, policy development, and the development of data & evaluation frameworks for all operational areas. You'll also play a key role alongside the CEO & AD managing in-house productions, overseeing contracts, and ensuring we deliver on key Arts Council England investment principles.

Job Requirements

Essential requirements

Experience at management level in a building-based arts/heritage organisation.

Experience of evaluation and benchmarking.

Experience of a range of contracting in an arts/heritage business/building.

Experience of written reporting to major funders e.g. ACE, NLHF etc.

Experience of business development & commercial negotiations.

Experience of financial management in a medium scale organisation. Knowledge of ACE's Lets Create four Investment Principles.

Job Responsibilities

Business Development: Help to deliver plans to increase revenue and diversify income streams

Policies: Update, develop and implement company-wide policies; including Access, EDI, Environmental, GDPR, H&S, Fire, HR, Risk and Safeguarding.

Governance: Deliver board administration; including overseeing all board meetings, sub-committees, board papers, agendas, minutes

Procedures: Support SLT colleagues to develop effective, written operating procedures for their respective departments.

HR: Oversee all HR policies

Contracting & Production: Oversee all contracting including for building contractors, traders, service providers, co-production partners, external programming producer, artists & performers

Data & Reporting: Develop an organisational evaluation and monitoring strategy across all significant areas of operations

Finance: Line-manage the Finance Administrator and oversee their work, oversee the financial data management for external auditors and lead on financial monitoring
