Who We're Looking For

You'll be a freelance consultant or practitioner with demonstrable experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Developing and delivering heritage activity plans
  • Working with communities on interpretation, audience research and co-production
  • Delivering audience research and evaluation
  • Supporting volunteer development and programming

You'll work alongside us and our clients - museums, galleries, historic sites, and cultural institutions - to shape and deliver thoughtful, creative, and sustainable approaches to public engagement. Projects may vary in scale and duration, and we work flexibly, agreeing days on a week-by-week basis.

daily rate £350-£400, 1-2 days per month

Job Requirements

  • Heritage interpretation expertise - Proven experience in developing interpretation strategies or content for museums, historic sites, or heritage trails.

  • Community engagement - Experience designing and delivering inclusive engagement activities or consultations with diverse audiences.

  • Project management - Ability to plan, deliver, and evaluate small to medium-sized projects, often under tight deadlines.

  • Research & storytelling - Strong skills in historical research and crafting engaging narratives for public audiences.

  • Evaluation and reporting - Experience designing evaluation methods (qualitative/quantitative) and producing clear reports for clients or funders.

  • Knowledge of HLF/NLHF frameworks - Familiarity with National Lottery Heritage Fund guidance, especially Activity Plans and Evaluation Frameworks.

  • Digital and creative tools - Competence in using digital tools for interpretation (e.g. audio guides, interactive displays, digital storytelling).
