As Finance Manager you’ll work closely with the Director, to lead on the development, management, control and planning of the use of Harbour House Trusts finances, assets and resources, ensuring compliance with charitable best practice.

Finance Manager / Head of Finance - Key Responsibilities Summary

  • Strategic & Operational Financial Management:
    Support budgeting, business planning, and financial strategy in collaboration with the Director. Oversee cash flow, debt, capital, and risk management.

  • Financial Monitoring & Reporting:
    Prepare and analyse monthly management accounts, forecasts, and statutory reports. Ensure accurate financial records and compliance with financial regulations and good practice.

  • Line Management & Oversight:
    Supervise the Bookkeeper and payroll preparation. Lead on financial elements of audits, ensuring proper procedures and controls.

  • Governance & Legal Compliance:
    Act as Company Secretary. Ensure compliance with statutory requirements (e.g., PAYE, VAT, Data Protection, Companies Act).

  • Stakeholder & Fund Management:
    Support relationships with funders, manage grants and reporting, and submit Gift Aid claims.

  • Policy, Systems & Support:
    Maintain up-to-date financial policies and procedures. Provide financial support and guidance to staff, and ensure robust data backup and protection practices.

  • Organisational Commitment:
    Uphold the values and inclusive ethos of Harbour House Trust and contribute to additional tasks as needed.

Job Requirements

As Finance Manager you'll work closely with the Director, to lead on the development, management, control and planning of the use of Harbour House Trusts finances, assets and resources, ensuring compliance with charitable best practice.

You'll provide sound advice on financial matters to the Director, Board of Trustees and other management colleagues and lead on the operational elements of Finance across the organisation.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes

  • Prepare monthly management accounts, annual budgets, and statutory financial reports

  • Monitor financial performance and KPIs, identifying improvements and efficiencies

  • Manage payroll preparation and supervise the Bookkeeper

  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, audit requirements, and internal controls

  • Act as Company Secretary and oversee risk management practices

  • Manage grant reporting, Gift Aid claims, and funder relationships

  • Maintain up-to-date financial policies and ensure secure data and backup processes

  • Support staff with financial guidance and oversee financial aspects of capital projects

  • Promote the values of Harbour House Trust, including a commitment to inclusion and diversity
