Description

Job Summary

FACT is seeking a Lead Technician to join our Exhibitions and Programme teams. FACT has an international reputation for producing innovative, ground-breaking exhibitions featuring newly commissioned and produced artworks by artists at all stages of their careers, working in art and technology.

Job Description

Each year, we support, commission, and work with dozens of artists and creatives, offering career-enhancing opportunities to develop and present ambitious new work. The Lead Technician is a key point of contact throughout projects, working closely with artists and external suppliers, managing FACT's technical resources, and ensuring that FACT's technical capabilities are used to their best advantage.

The Lead Technician is a full-time position within FACT's Exhibitions and Programme teams, responsible for meeting the technical needs of FACT's artistic programme. The role oversees a part-time technician and freelance exhibition technicians and leads the technical design, planning, and delivery of FACT's artistic programme, including exhibitions, creative and artistic projects, learning programmes, and events.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong interest in contemporary art and artistic processes, and a desire to explore how new technologies can shape experimental and extraordinary experiences. The Lead Technician will play a key role in advancing FACT's use of technology, ensuring the organisation remains at the forefront of new developments through research, experimentation, and engagement with emerging initiatives.

The role also includes responsibility for the organisation, maintenance, and upkeep of FACT's technical equipment, as well as supporting wider organisational activities by undertaking duties led by other departments as required. In addition, the Lead Technician will collaborate closely with the Buildings and Operations teams to ensure that FACT's artistic programme aligns with organisational health and safety requirements and existing infrastructure, and will provide technical consultation on capital projects where these support artistic outcomes.
