Deputy Director Grizedale Arts, Grizedale Arts

Description

Job Summary

Deputy Director (full-time) Salary: £34-£38k. Full-time (40 hours per week). Permanent contract. Based at The Farmers Arms, Lowick Green, Ulverston, Cumbria LA12 8DT, U.K This new role has been created to support the next phase of Grizedale Arts development.

Job Description

Grizedale Arts has become an influential model for a new kind of arts institution nationally and internationally. Based in the Lake District, the organisation currently runs both Lawson Park and The Farmer's Arms, near Ulverston. Our underlying philosophy is that art and artists can affect change and benefit society. Grizedale Arts is a registered charity no. 1076662 and is part of the Arts Council England's current National Portfolio of Organisations (NPO).

The new Deputy Director / Director Designate will have a high level of expertise and originality in the curation and delivery of contemporary art and/or cultural programming. This is a new opportunity to nurture a unique arts organisation at a critical stage in its evolution, as longstanding director Adam Sutherland nears the end of his tenure. The Deputy Director role will begin with primary responsibility for developing and delivering a range of linked initiatives along Coniston's Crake valley, including Grizedale Arts' artists' residency Lawson Park and The Farmer's Arms, a historic inn purchased by the organisation (supported by community investors) in 2021. These initiatives will play an important role in the succession planning of the organisation.

Working in the rural Lake District can be challenging. You will need to be able to drive, to be prepared to work flexible hours, and to be exceptionally resourceful. To navigate the area's many contingent influences (agriculture, climate change, tourism to name a few) whilst keeping creativity front and central, demands determination, grit, humour and patience.

If that sounds like you, we hope you'll apply.
