Calico is an award-winning social enterprise, based in Birmingham, using creativity to combat gendered violence. We are seeking a Company Assistant to support Calico as we grow.

Job Description

Calico was founded by activists and best friends, Daz Cox and Martha Harrison. We are seeking to grow our team and impact over the next few years.

The Company Assistant will work closely with Martha & Daz, supporting administration across the whole business, including operations, finance, marketing/social media, project co-ordination.

The Company Assistant is a part-time permanent position - 2 days per week at a £27,000 pro rated salary (£10,800 per year).

Job Requirements

Essential:
- Able to work in person in Birmingham for one day per week
- Strong organisational skills & attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
- Good written & verbal communication skills
- Basic financial administration skills (invoicing, tracking expenses)
- Proactive, resourceful and able to work independently
- Professionalism in handling client and partner communications
- Alignment with our social mission

Desirable:
- Based in the West Midlands
- Full, valid driver's license and access to a vehicle
- Experience with Google Workspace and Xero software
- Experience with social media management and/or content scheduling
- Experience with updating websites via (e.g. via WordPress, Squarespace, Wix)
- Experience in project coordination or event support
- Experience working in a small business, startup, or creative organisation
- Interest in developing skills across company, marketing, or project management

Job Responsibilities

As a small team, we see this role evolving over time in line with the successful candidate's strengths, interests, and development goals. The below gives an idea of the kinds of work we need support with, but it is not an exhaustive or fixed list:
- Operations: Managing email inboxes and schedules, responding to enquiries, booking meetings.

- Finance: Invoicing clients, tracking payments and expenses, chasing unpaid invoices.

- Marketing: Creating and scheduling social media posts (Instagram & Linkedin), updating our website, sending newsletters.

- Project Co-Ordination: Booking accommodation and travel, ordering and collecting materials, occasionally working on-site during projects.

- Founder support: Desk research, running errands, assisting with ad-hoc tasks.

Start date: w/c 11th May.
