We are looking for practitioners to run weekly sessions for young people in Ashington, contributing to artistic projects such as performances.

We have fixed-term projects and roles starting from Jan 2026.

Our weekly sessions offer a safe, consistent creative space where children and young people with no/limited access to the arts, can build trusting relationships with practitioners and receive long-term support for their development.

Many of our beneficiaries are neurodivergent, LGBTQIA+, have social, emotional & mental health (SEMH) needs, and/or have experience of socio-economic deprivation. Some of our beneficiaries are also care-experienced, young carers, and/or from the global majority.

Our practitioners work collaboratively amongst a skilled team of fellow Artist Practitioners, Producers, a Production Manager and freelance artists & technicians. We also involve our practitioners in our wider company development work and provide training, DBS checks and other benefits.

  • Rate of Pay: £17.85 per hour paid monthly (plus holiday pay). Monthly pay is calculated as an average of the total hours to be worked across the project duration.
  • Contract: Employed, fixed-term contracts, 6-16 hours per week to be agreed.

Job Requirements

Essential

Experience & Skills in:

  • Leading drama workshops and a drama- based devising / co-creation process with children and young people.
  • Designing responsive, creative, innovative and accessible approaches to theatre and drama projects / workshops.
  • Working with children and young people to prepare for performance. l Devising and/or directing contemporary theatre/performance.
  • Supporting young people's wellbeing, building rapport and responding to their needs.

Interest in and commitment to Mortal Fools' purpose and way of working:

  • Valuing co-creation with children, young people and other artists and as a field of artistic work in its own right and part of your own creative work.
  • Interested in and able to co-create work that is meaningful to young people and their communities.
  • A willingness to collaborate with others.
  • A willingness to receive and act upon feedback to improve your practice.

Job Responsibilities

  • Induction and training.
  • Planning, delivering and evaluating weekly drama and creative sessions.
  • Preparing for and delivering performance or showcase events.
  • Attending project meetings (e.g., production meetings).
  • Attending company development days.

All project work is paid for using the hourly rate so that there are no hidden hours.
