We're Hiring: Part-Time Wheel Throwing Instructors/Teachers

Job Description

£18-23 per hour based on experience. 2+ hours a week, will vary due to course scheduling

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Pottery Tutor to join our team of instructors, with a focus on teaching wheel throwing. In this role, you will lead engaging taster classes, provide instruction in both hand-building and throwing techniques, and offer hands-on support to students of all skill levels. You'll play a key part in creating a welcoming and educational studio environment by maintaining cleanliness, helping students build confidence in their abilities, and contributing to the studio's creative presence. This includes gathering student feedback for continuous improvement and capturing moments from class for marketing and social media content.

Job Requirements

  • Proficient in wheel throwing and hand-building techniques.
  • Prior teaching or tutoring experience in ceramics or a related creative field.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to work with students of all ages and skill levels.
  • Ability to explain techniques clearly and adapt teaching style to individual learning needs.
  • Reliable, punctual, and comfortable leading group classes independently.
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to work as part of a team.
  • Comfortable using a smartphone or camera to capture class moments for social media.
  • Commitment to maintaining a clean and safe studio environment.
  • Flexibility to work evenings or weekends, depending on class schedules.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead fun, engaging pottery taster classes, introducing students to the basics of wheel throwing and hand-building.
  • Provide clear, supportive instruction on a variety of ceramic techniques suited to all skill levels.
  • Offer one-on-one guidance and troubleshooting during classes to help students grow their confidence and skill.
  • Maintain a clean, organised studio environment before, during, and after sessions.
  • Collect and share student feedback with the studio owner to support ongoing improvements in class experience.
  • Capture photos and videos during classes to contribute to the studio's marketing and social media content.
  • Foster a warm, inclusive atmosphere that encourages creativity, learning, and community.
