Job Summary

The hugely successful, long-running West End production of smash-hit musical SIX is looking for a Wardrobe Assistant to join the team at the Vaudeville Theatre, starting in August 2025 on a one-year fixed term contract with potential to extend.

Job Description

- Assist with the maintenance and running repairs of the costumes under the instruction of the Head of Wardrobe (HoW) and in liaison with the Deputy Head of Wardrobe (DHoW);

- Assist with the laundry of the costumes

- Assist with dressing the actors in costumes prior to performances;

- Assist with any quick-change moments during performances;

- Replenishing, ordering, maintaining, and repairing costume wardrobe stock under the guidance of the HoW and DHoW;

- Assisting with the SIX Costume Studio and Store, 5-8 hours per week, inputting information into digitalised costume and fabric databases, updating the costume logbook, labelling items, checking returned costumes, updating inventory, and receiving deliveries;

- Teach your plot to any Deps and assist in their training, if required;

- Support the DHoW in the performance of their duties and deputise for them when necessary;

- Work with the HoW and DHoW to ensure that costumes are available as required for any rehearsals or additional calls (including marketing calls), eg. SwAlt rehearsals, filming, photoshoots;

- Follow up on all notes made by the team regarding costumes in your care

- Work collaboratively with all other departments, including the theatre technical team, to ensure the smooth running of the production;

- Assist the HoW and DHoW in maintaining the department COSHH record / Health and Safety and good housekeeping procedure;

- Support the HoW and DHoW in maintaining records of supply receipts and spending reports;

- Ensure that the wardrobe room and all costumes in dressing rooms are kept in a clean and tidy manner;

- Any other reasonable duty that would normally fall within the remit of a Wardrobe Assistant based on industry norms and practice, or as directed by the Costume Designer, Costume Supervisor, Head of Wardrobe, Company Manager, Producers or General Managers.

Job Requirements

Essential - Experience in a similar position on a comparable production; Experience of the working practices of a West End production; Strong sewing skills, hand and machine; Strong laundry skills; Experience of wardrobe maintenance; Experience with technical and unconventional textiles an advantage i.e. plastic, pvc, metal, printed stretchwear; Experience of dressing actors; Strong communication skills, both verbal and written; Excellent attention to detail; Respectful approach and consideration of others, bearing in mind the potentially sensitive nature of wardrobe/costume work; Work closely with actors and creative teams, and handle confidential information with discretion; Proactive and flexible; Work well under pressure and effectively prioritise; Work well in a team and independently.

Desirable - Experience of working with unconventional fabrics including handling and maintaining glued crystal / stud embellishments; Experience working in a costume store and/or cataloguing items.
