The Trainee Performer should be an early career dancer / physical performer based in or from Kent, who will job share a movement based role in Dante or Die’s upcoming site-based production. They will work alongside a professional Performer - Mentor developing performance skills.

Job Description

Dante or Die is currently looking for a Trainee Performer to join our InSites Training Programme. This position is for an early-career performer based in or from Kent. The Trainee Performer will join our team for our upcoming site-based theatre production that will tour to Reading, Manchester and London, in partnership with South Street, The Lowry, and Barbican.

The ideal candidate will be early in their career, passionate about theatre and looking for a next step to support their career in theatre.

Role: Trainee Performer


Duration: 9 week contract


Fee: £601 per week (paid weekly)


Anticipated Start Date: 5th January 2026


Anticipated End Date: 6th March 2026 with three legacy follow up meetings throughout April- July 2026


Reporting To: Terry O'Donovan, Dante or Die's Co-Artistic Director; Terry has performed in almost every production of Dante or Die's and is highly experienced in site-based performance. Location: London before touring to Reading & Manchester.

Benefits:
Travel Allowance: An allowance of £40 per day towards train fare for days in London is offered for rehearsals. Travel will be fully covered for work required in Reading and Manchester as
part of the tour.


Accommodation: Will be provided across the performance run.

Per Diems / Expenses Allowance: When overnight accommodation is required the company will pay £25 per day to be used towards meals.

Character: The Cleaner

Age: Any age over 18 Gender: Any gender Ethnicity: Any ethnicity


Character Overview: The cleaner is a busy role within the production. The audience is a fly on the wall but in very close proximity and the cleaner sometimes needs to move 'right through them'! They have a magical realist effect on all of the characters they encounter. Their track is physical and non-verbal. It requires someone with precision, and the ability to flip between physical comedy and tenderness quickly.

Job Requirements

This position is for an early-career producer based in or from Kent, we are particularly interested to hear from and encourage applications from people based in Medway and Swale.

Essential

  • An interest in creating and performing in site-specific work
  • Training in dance or physical theatre
  • The role requires physical ability to climb on furniture, interact with many characters and learn choreography.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good time management

Desirable

  • Interest in & passion for Dante or Die's work
  • Experience of touring theatre shows
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and problem solve

Job Responsibilities

The Trainee will work alongside a professional Performer - Mentor developing skills in the following areas:

  • The process of rehearsing & preparing for site-based performances
  • Complexities of performing in, around & up close to an audience
  • How to ensure your safety as a performer
  • Working with the Stage Management team and Company Manager
  • Logistics & infrastructure for site-based performances, how you work in a non-traditional performance setting
  • Performer stamina in performing the same 10 minute scene 6 times consecutively
  • Problem solving, being able to respond in the moment and improvise if required
  • Touring site-based work and ability to adapt to different site layouts / room sizes/set-up
