Job Summary

Avalon are looking for a Touring Carpenter to work on the UK tour of Operation Mincemeat. Still enjoying a phenomenal run in London’s West End, Operation Mincemeat is now also on its first national tour and has an exciting opening as part of the touring technical team.

Job Description

Work closely with the Heads of Departments, Stage Management, touring company, resident crew, and visiting crew, in establishing and executing the needs of the production. Lead on maintaining all scenic items in keeping with the design for the production. Hold key responsibility for maintaining the performer flying equipment on tour, whilst ensuring all equipment adheres to health and safety regulations and the manager's policies.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Attending all rehearsals, show calls, maintenance calls, get-ins/fit-ups/get-outs as required
  • Lead on the upkeep of all scenic items and performer flying equipment through cleaning and daily checks, to ensure equipment and scenery are safely fitted and in working order for each performance, in keeping with the design for the production
  • Assist the technical HODs in equipment cleaning and daily checks; ensure equipment is in fitted and in working order for each performance
  • Load and unload the wagons as required
  • Ensure work materials and technical equipment are kept in a tidy and secured manner; creating and maintaining all inspection, maintenance and all other required documentation for the safe and continued show operation
  • Report any faults to the relevant Head of Department or Production Manager and assist in resolving any issues as required
  • Learn and maintain a strong practical understanding of all technical stage plots, and run technical plots during performances as required, to ensure the smooth-running of the show
  • Instruct venue crew where necessary
  • Ensure all areas and equipment adhere to health and safety regulations
  • Manage petty cash for your department and the timely placing of any orders for goods and equipment as approved by the General Manager
  • Support and assist other departments where required as an active member of the touring team
  • Comply with the Manager's Health and Safety and other policies at all times
  • Perform all duties as deemed necessary for the success of the production

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate will have experience of touring and opening large-scale theatre shows, ideally musicals, and professional experience in a management position.

Essential experience includes:

  • Strong experience of leading load-ins and load-outs on a large-scale touring production.
  • Experience and an understanding of stage & show running etiquette.
  • Leadership and ability to work under pressure.

Start date: The tour begins its tech period w/c 9th February 2026 (however, we may require the successful candidate to be available prior to this for prep).

End date: Saturday 28th November 2026
