Job Summary

Saatchi Gallery is looking for temporary Gallery Invigilators to work 3 or 4 days per week for a period of 4-6 months during our Winter/Spring exhibition period. Successful candidates will work alongside our permanent team to manage the experience of visitors in the Gallery.

Job Description

This is a temporary role to primarily assist the permanent Visitor Experience (VE) team with the invigilation of our exhibition spaces, ensuring that a high standard of visitor experience and safety is maintained.

The role is intended to ensure the safety and security of visitors, staff, artworks and the building. Additionally, the role involves dealing with Gallery visitors in a positive and welcoming manner.
The role involves supporting the permanent team in accomplishment of the aims and goals of the Visitor Experience department.

Key responsibilities include:
Invigilating Gallery spaces
Guiding and helping visitors
Keeping visitors safe
Contributing to the protection and safety of staff, artworks and the building.
Supporting the department's work with events at the Gallery, memberships and managing ticket sales.

We are looking for candidates who can work for 3-4 days per week from late October / early November 2026 through to March or April 2027. Shifts will typically commence at 9.30am and end at 6pm but some different shifts will be required each month for events. Some shifts at weekends will be required each month.

A typical shift will be 7.5 hours per day plus an unpaid lunch break of 1 hour. Shifts will typically commence at 9.30am and end at 6pm but some different shifts will be required each month for events. Some shifts at weekends will be required each month.

The base salary for working 4 days per week / 30 hours per week in this temporary role is £20,202 per annum.
The base salary for working 3 days per week / 22.5 hours per week in this temporary role is £15,152 per annum.

Job Requirements

The Gallery is looking for candidates who have these attributes:

Reliability - work designated shifts & be flexible over availability
Visitor focus - strong interpersonal and communication skill, ideally with some customer service experience
Interest in and/or prior experience contemporary art and galleries or museums
Any prior experience with being a fire marshal or first- aid qualified

Job Responsibilities

Guiding Visitors
Help with wayfinding for visitors
Be able to answer basic visitor enquiries and to seek help for any complicated enquiries.
Conduct visitor surveys.

Visitor Safety
As part of a team, be responsible for the safe evacuation of all visitors and office staff during an evacuation. You will receive the necessary training to carry out these duties.
Alert VE managers to any concerns about the health and safety of visitors or staff or others on site.

Artwork & Building Safety & Security
Remain in the designated positions allocated by the management team to ensure constant supervision over both the gallery spaces and artworks.
Be ready to report any issues to management
Proactively monitor spaces to make your presence felt and recognised by visitors.

General
Support the wider VE team in the addressing and accomplishment of departmental goals.
Perform any reasonable duty requested by departmental managers or the senior management of the Gallery.
