The Technical & Facilites Manager will be responsible for overseeing all technical aspects of the theatre’s operations, including all in house and visiting productions. They will also lead alongside the general manager on building, maintenance and facilities management

Job Description

On a day-to-day basis, the Technical & Facilities Manager will manage the backstage areas and theatre spaces, serving as the primary point of contact for technical matters and other operational issues that may arise in a busy theatre environment. They will act as a representative of the theatre to stage managers, production managers, directors, performers, and producers working within the venue, and will work collaboratively with Front of House and Box Office teams to ensure the smooth and efficient running of performances.

The Technical & Facilities Manager will be responsible for maintaining the theatre's technical equipment, supporting in the management and maintenance of the building, overseeing technical rehearsals and get-ins, and managing the weekly theatre schedule and Technical rotas. Job Requirements

We're looking for someone with a real enthusiasm for the arts, especially fringe theatre, and solid experience in technical theatre, stage or duty management. You'll understand the full production process, from get-ins and fit-ups to tech rehearsals, and have strong technical knowledge of sound, lighting, and video equipment, plus workplace health and safety. You should be friendly, approachable, organised, and confident leading a team, with great communication skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure. A strong working knowledge of ETC EOS lighting systems, DMX over IP (sACN), show control networking (OSC/MSC), QLab, and sound system setup is essential. Desirable skills include equipment maintenance, IT confidence, PAT testing, first aid, production or stage management, digital sound mixing (X32), IP networking, and DANTE audio.

Job Responsibilities

In this role, you'll oversee the smooth technical and operational running of the theatre, ensuring all lighting, sound, and AV equipment is maintained, safe, and show-ready. You'll support visiting productions and in-house shows from get-in to get-out, rigging, focusing, plotting, and troubleshooting as needed, while ensuring all technical and health & safety standards are met. Acting as Duty Technician or Duty Manager, you'll open and close the building, complete show reports, and ensure seamless show operations, often during evenings and weekends. You'll manage rotas, supervise and train technical staff and apprentices, and maintain effective communication across departments. The role also includes supporting building maintenance, coordinating contractors, and conducting regular inspections, as well as upholding health, safety, and sustainability policies, providing first aid and fire warden support, and championing environmentally responsible practices.
