To Those Islanders is an upcoming research and development (R&D) week exploring the creative boundaries of theatrical sound design and accessibility. We are investigating how binaural sound can be integrated directly into a production's soundscape, specifically looking at how an Audio Describer can use binaural technology to create an immersive, unified experience for visually impaired (VI) audiences.
We are seeking a collaborative and technically skilled Sound Engineer to help us create, manage, and operate the audio setup for this week-long laboratory, culminating in an informal work-in-progress sharing.Job Requirements
Proven experience working with binaural sound systems and spatial audio.
High proficiency in using Ableton Live and Logic Pro.
Full availability for the dates specified (7-11 September 2026).
Experience working alongside visually impaired artists or creating specialised work for VI audiences.
Experience working across both scripted and devised theatrical formats.
Personal access to binaural recording or playback equipment.Job Responsibilities
Set up and manage the binaural audio system in the studio space.
Collaborate with the creative team to embed live and pre-recorded audio description into the show's core soundscape.
