The Young Creative Collective at Mansfield Palace Theatre and Museum are seeking an artist to lead a co-creation process with a group of young people to create work which will be part of a new exhibition 'My Favourite Tree'. Chelsey Everatt from Rooted Arts CIC is Project Managing the new 'My Favourite Tree' exhibition at Mansfield Museum. Background Mansfield Museum is currently developing a new exhibition called My Favourite Tree. This is the culmination of a community art project that celebrates the trees that shape our lives, landscapes, and memories. Trees provide beauty, shelter, and history, and this exhibition aims to highlight their significance through creative expression. The Young Creative Collective are a group of young people aged 16-25 from a range of creative backgrounds who are interested in careers in the arts, with a connection to the Mansfield area. The Project The collective would like to invite submissions from creatives across artforms and career stage, inspired by the theme of the exhibition and an interest of working in a co-creative process with young people. Proposals can be from any creative artform that could be presented in an exhibition setting, which could include (but not limited to): visual arts, film, sound, photography, 3D design, writing, digital and more. The collective are interested in exploring the trees that surrounded their childhood homes in Mansfield, using them as anchors to reflect on personal memories and the town's heritage. Early conversations have centred around the idea of "if trees could talk" - imagining what stories local trees might share about growing up, changing neighbourhoods, and the lives they've quietly witnessed. They would like to connect to the cultural and environmental history of Mansfield, weaving together themes of memory, place, and belonging. Across 3 weekly sessions in early 2026, the collective and selected artist will work collaboratively to develop work for the exhibition. The creative may spend further time to finalise the work. Timeline The timeline for this project is as follows: The project is approximately 4-5 days in duration - this includes 1-2 days planning, 3 x 2 hour in person sessions, 1-2 days finalising artwork and installation. Budget There is a budget of up to £1000 (around £200-£250 per day) for the artist fee which should include planning, preparation, workshops and finalising the artwork, with an additional £200 available for materia Submission Please email proposals to [email protected] by 5pm on Tuesday 18th November, clearly marked ‘YCC Favourite Tree Proposal’.
