Join the Bodleian Libraries Security Team to help protect our historic buildings, collections and visitors. This frontline role involves patrols, access control, responding to incidents and providing excellent customer service. Full-time, rota-based role including evenings and weekends.
About the Role The Security Team plays a vital role in ensuring the safety of people, buildings and collections across the Old Bodleian Library, Weston Library, Radcliffe Camera and Clarendon Building. You will work as part of an in-house team and act as a visible point of contact for readers and visitors. Duties include patrolling public and reader areas, monitoring access to restricted spaces, conducting bag and locker checks, locking and unlocking buildings, setting alarms, responding to incidents, handling enquiries and maintaining accurate records. This is a full-time post (36.5 hours per week) working a three-weekly rota including evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays (one weekend in three plus one additional Saturday per cycle). A satisfactory Basic DBS check is required due to the safety-critical nature of the role. About You You will be willing to work evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays in line with operational needs. You will work effectively within a team and demonstrate a professional, customer-focused approach. You will be confident interacting with a wide range of people, using tact and diplomacy where required. You will be observant, detail-focused and able to remain attentive during tasks involving prolonged standing and walking. A good standard of written and spoken English is essential. A first aid or recognised security/customer service qualification would be advantageous. The post holder will work as a member of an integrated in-house team being the initial point of contact for all customers and readers. The team will look after the people, buildings and collections within the Old Bodleian Library, the Weston Library, the Radcliffe Camera and the Clarendon Building.
To, at all times, provide a positive experience for the Bodleian Libraries customers.
