Description

Job Summary

Opportunity for artist or artist team to produce an ambitious and celebratory permanent artwork for Hull’s iconic Fruit Market area, where the Rivers Hull and Humber meet. Celebrating the Fruit Market's irrepressible spirit of reinvention and the people who work, live, play and visit there.

Job Description

Wykeland Group, their Managing Director and the Brignall family, Hull, want to commission an experienced and inspired artist or artist team to produce an ambitious and celebratory artwork for Hull's iconic Fruit Market area, at the confluence of the Rivers Hull and Humber, and bordering the city's marina.

The Fruit Market's Humber Street has undergone a huge transformation in the last ten years. Once dilapidated fruit warehouses have now been sensitively repurposed into art galleries and artist studios; independent shops, restaurants and homes. It is again vibrant, bustling and energised, taking the best of its past and looking towards a bright future ahead.

The new artwork will embody the Fruit Market's irrepressible spirit of vibrancy and renewal, linking to the ever-changing, flowing rivers that converge there. The artwork will stand near two of the main pathways into the Fruit Market area - at the confluence of the Rivers Hull and Humber and adjoining the beautiful Stage @TheDock amphitheatre space.

This is an important and iconic location, and we want to commission an artwork that does justice to and celebrates this special place, the vision that has brought this to fruition, and the people who work, live, play and visit there.

The closing date for applications is midday, Tuesday 26th May 2026.
Artist fee: £72,500 (excluding VAT) includes all materials, fees, expenses and installation costs.
