Job Summary

Croydon Archives is seeking an experienced consultant in digital engagement, user experience research and inclusive design to lead a six-month research-led project funded by The National Archives’ Research & Innovation Grant.

Job Description

This project, Access for All: Researching and Redesigning the Croydon Archives Digital Experience, aims to transform how Croydon's diverse communities discover and engage with our archival resources and collections online. We are looking for a consultant who can work collaboratively with under-represented residents to make our website, catalogue, social media and digital kiosks more intuitive, inclusive and user-friendly.

Contract: six months (approx. 23 days of work)
Fee: Up to £9000 (inclusive of all expenses)
Deadline: Midday, Monday 8 April 2026
Location: Hybrid (Croydon + remote)

Job Requirements

We're looking for:

Strong experience in focus groups, digital engagement and inclusive design
A track record of working with diverse communities, including Global Majority groups, LGBTQ+ people, disabled people, neurodivergent people and young people
Experience in archives, museums, heritage or cultural sectors
Excellent communication, facilitation and collaborative working skills

Job Responsibilities

Key responsibilities

Designing and delivering community-led user research, including focus groups with diverse and under-represented residents.
Evaluating our digital platforms against sector best practice in user experience and inclusive design
Implementing practical improvements to navigation, content presentation, and accessibility
Creating sustainable templates and tools to support future digital engagement
Producing a digital engagement output based on research findings
Developing a sector-facing guidance document to share learning with other archives
