Job Summary

UK Productions are seeking a Production Costume Technician to join their Production Wardrobe team in Blackpool.

Job Description

As Production Costume Technician, you will work within the Production Wardrobe Team under the supervision of the Production Wardrobe Manager. Utilising your existing skillset working with theatrical costume, you will work closely with the wider costume team to ensure costume requirements, including making, alterations and repairs are identified and completed to the highest of standards and support the efficient flow of production in the busy, fast-pasted Production Wardrobe.

The position is ideal for somebody with strong making skills, with 3-5 years experience working in theatrical costume.

Job Requirements

You will have...

- 3+ years experience working with theatre costume.

- Self-motivation, including the ability and desire to learn and develop new skills.

- Strong and accurate hand and machine sewing skills, including knowledge of different industrial and domestic sewing machines and machine maintenance.

- Experience of costume altering and maintenance.

- Fluent with sewing terminology and a good knowledge of fabrics.

- The ability to be creative and resourceful in problem solving.

- Excellent organisational and time management skills.

- The ability to work on own initiative and within a team.

- A strong understanding of how costumes will be worn and be able to identify, address and resolve any safety concerns.

Job Responsibilities

Duties & Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

- Working closely with the Production Workshop Manager to ensure that the costume requirements of productions, projects and events are achieved, including but not restricted to costume making, repairing, altering and picking from stock.

- Support the Production Wardrobe Team by working to set briefs and completing to the agreed schedule.

- Altering and repairing costumes as required, recognising where maintenance work needs to be carried out and completed to a high standard.

- Assisting the Hires Manager and Production Workshop Manager with the loading and unloading of costumes and other tasks related to costume packing and movement.

- Mentoring junior members of staff to develop the team skillset and support the Production Workshop Manager in building a highly skilled team of costume technicians.
