Bread and Butter is a PR agency working in the UK across the cultural sector - from arts and music to theatre and dance, and written and spoken word.

The Press Assistant role is for an organised individual supporting a busy press office. They should have a passion for arts and culture and an interest in a career in PR, with a year's experience in a similar environment, or having completed an internship in a similar environment.

We offer a hybrid system to work both at our office in Somerset House, London, and from home. There are regular times when you will be needed in person at a meeting or to work at an event, and these are usually in London, but may be in other UK locations depending on the project.

Remuneration, benefits and holiday entitlement:

  • Full-time, Monday-Friday
  • 12 month fixed-term contract with three month probation period
  • Salary: £27,350 pro rata, paid monthly
  • Auto-enrolment pension scheme if eligible
  • The working day is 8.5 hours of your choosing, agreed with your Line Manager, and depending on daily schedules and meetings, between the hours of 8.30am and 6.30pm
  • 20 days holiday annually + public holidays + office closures
  • TOIL claimable in appropriate circumstances
  • Responsible to the Directors and Publicists

Job Requirements

  • Passionate about arts and culture
  • Interested in a career in media and Public Relations, with a year's experience in a similar environment, or having completed an internship in a similar environment
  • Have sound administrative skills, excellent organisation and time management
  • Have a positive attitude in their approach to all tasks and a willingness to learn
  • Have impeccable attention to detail
  • Can adapt quickly and easily when required
  • An excellent communicator, verbally and in writing
  • Can multi-task and is confident working across multiple projects with urgent deadlines
  • Flexible approach to work with ability to attend evening and weekend events as required
  • Experience in social media use is essential
  • Some experience of Google Workspace is desirable
  • Experience in database management, ideally Cision, is desirable
  • Stay abreast of media trends and developments
  • Have an in-depth knowledge of the cultural landscape
  • Attend press nights
  • Maintain confidentiality

Job Responsibilities

  • Assisting Directors and Publicists in their campaign work
  • Managing administration connected with running client accounts including maintenance of campaign documents, updates and reports
  • Creating and managing press lists
  • Conducting research to support PR planning
  • Sending press releases
  • Resizing and captioning press images
  • Administration of press tickets
  • Providing briefing notes to talent and media as required
  • Distribution of press cuttings
  • Pitching to journalists/ following up with press materials as required
  • Dealing with requests for images, footage and press information
  • Seasonal pitching on behalf of the company
  • Maintaining project details on Bread & Butter PR's Website
  • Working with the other Press Assistant to curate, schedule, post and share content on Bread & Butter PR's LinkedIn and Instagram.
