Job Description
This role is key to the successful and effective delivery of the British Museum's world-class exhibition programme. Working closely with the Project Management team and across the museum, this person will facilitate the planning and delivery of projects and business as usual activity within the Exhibitions & Temporary Display and Design & Interpretation functions, leading a team of technical and production staff. The post holder will be responsible for bringing teams and services within the museum, and externally, together to support the successful delivery of high-quality exhibitions, displays, print and other design media within time and budget constraints. This includes the management of external contractors, ensuring compliance with health and safety, fire and other regulations, and the coordination of internal services and stakeholders. The role will provide high-level support within the programme management, resource planning, and operational planning for the exhibition and temporary display programme.
Job Requirements
Experience managing and administering projects, including risk management; issue resolution; change management; cost control; budget management.
Experience planning and managing a programme or portfolio of projects or work packages involving planning of resources and scheduling.
Excellent organisational, administrative and planning skills, including examples of delivering multidisciplinary projects simultaneously and confidently.
Demonstratable experience prioritising multiple workloads and ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
Ability to research, report on, and develop project briefs to achieve the clients needs and desired design.
Skilled planner, with an ability to prioritise and manage oversight of several projects at once.
Strong grasp of desired end result, with the ability to problem solve and adapt to changes as they comeJob Responsibilities
To lead on operational planning for exhibition, temporary display and design activity, including programme management, resource planning, asset management, and scheduling.
To oversee the successful delivery of the construction of exhibitions and related technical services, and their dismantling following closure, safely and securely, within budget, to schedule to a high quality. Includes managing discrete multi-disciplinary teams within wider exhibition projects.
To support the procurement of exhibition construction and technical services. To work closely with project managers in this regard for large exhibition projects, in particular for the preparation and management of tenders, and the selection of contractors.
To ensure effective technical support for the delivery of exhibitions and design services.
