The successful candidate will teach piano from beginners upwards in individual lessons which incorporate general musicianship including some basic theory, historical context and improvisation skills. You should be able to teach using a range of teaching/musical styles. Responsibilities include planning the structure and repertoire for each lesson, monitoring student progress and contributing to student Individual Learning Plans. The role may also include accompanying for informal concerts and the I Can Sing! musical theatre programme where repertoire includes HMDT Music's own commissions as well as music from the Broadway tradition. You should have experience of and enjoy working with young people ages 5-16 and be an excellent pianist. Skills in arranging, improvisation, and transposing would be a bonus. The role might also include some aural preparation for ABRSM exams and/or playing for the Fledglings - Reception aged music session. The role will involve working on Saturdays from 09:00 to 14:00 (hours may vary) for 20 weeks for the 2025-26 Academic year from 10 January 2026 to 11 July 2026, and is renewable each academic year. Fee: Approximately £1,500.00 per term, dependent upon hours (on a self-employed basis).
