Job Summary

Disabled arts student with FND + AuDHD seeks PA for personal care, meal prep, med appointments, shows/classes. Must be physically strong (wheelchair down stairs). Driving licence ideal but not essential. Calm, reliable, ND-friendly. Flexible hours.

Job Description

Hiya,

I'm a disabled Performance student with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) and AuDHD (autism and ADHD), looking for a supportive, reliable, and physically capable Personal Assistant to help me manage daily life, live more independently, and stay engaged with my studies and creative practice. I'm based in a non-accessible home and need support with a mixture of practical, personal, and creative tasks.

The role includes:

  • Personal care (e.g. washing, dressing, toileting, and mobility support)
  • Meal preparation and basic domestic support (e.g. tidying, laundry)
  • Assistance attending university classes, performances, exhibitions, creative arts/dance/drama/poetry workshops, and social events
  • Accompanying me to medical appointments and helping with appointment planning
  • Support with organisation, planning, and managing energy levels
  • Physically lifting or carrying a manual wheelchair down a flight of stairs (there is no step-free access where I live)

About you:

You don't need to have specific experience with FND or neurodivergence, but you must be calm, grounded, and open-minded, with a willingness to learn and work collaboratively. You should be physically strong enough to safely assist with the wheelchair, comfortable with personal care, and respectful of boundaries and access needs.

A driving licence and access to a car would be helpful for attending appointments and events, but this is flexible for the right person.

Additional info:

  • Flexible, part-time hours to be agreed together
  • Paid role (rate depending on experience/funding scheme)
  • DBS check may be required
  • Based in [insert your area/city]
  • Training and support will be provided where needed

Pay:

£13-£15 per hour depending on experience and funding (paid via Direct Payments).

This is a rewarding opportunity to support an arts student in their everyday life, enabling independence, access, and creative engagement in a dynamic and often unpredictable world.

Job Requirements

  • Physically able to carry a manual wheelchair down stairs
  • Comfortable with personal care (washing, dressing, toileting)
  • Calm, reliable, and supportive
  • Neurodivergent-friendly (no prior knowledge of FND/AuDHD required)
  • Willing to learn and adapt
  • Driving licence desirable but not essential
  • Able to support with domestic tasks and flexible to routine changes

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care and mobility support
  • Help prepare meals and assist with light domestic tasks
  • Support attendance at classes, shows, and medical appointments
  • Carry wheelchair downstairs when needed
  • Assist with planning, pacing, and accessing the community
  • Respect access needs and boundaries
  • Contribute to a safe, supportive, and creative environment

How to Apply

To apply, please send a short email introducing yourself, outlining any relevant experience (personal or professional), and why you’re interested in the role. You don’t need formal qualifications — just the right attitude and willingness to learn. Please include your availability.
