Job Summary

We are currently seeking a part-time Gallery Consultant (3-4 days a week) with a proven expertise in and love for sales and communications, to develop strong client relationships and to become an integral part of our team.

Job Description

The role requires strong sales, communications and administration. The right candidate would therefore be a team player, as well as intuitive and self-motivated. They need to be confident in their ability to consistently close sales and develop strong, long lasting client relationships. Responsible for the daily activities of running a gallery, we're looking for a resourceful and hard-working person, with a 'can-do' positive attitude; well-presented and proficient in spoken and written English.

Applicants should be aware that this role requires the flexibility to support regular weekend work on a rota, preview events and exhibitions. Comfortable working on a laptop computer, good knowledge of Google Suite or MS Office, as well as an understanding of social media, artistic processes and the art world would be a distinct advantage. This enthusiastic, adaptable and resourceful person will need to be comfortable approaching visitors, as well as working with artists.

Salary £23,500 per annum, pro rata (21-28 hours per week). Plus opportunity for OTE.

Job Requirements

  • A Degree e.g. History of Art, although non-art related subjects such as business, psychology, marketing, and social sciences also welcome
  • At least 5 years of work experience is required, ideally within sales
  • You will be expected to sell - this is the main focus of this role. You must be able to establish business relationships and a rapport with potential collectors, so excellent customer service skills are integral
  • Efficient, well organised, adaptable and resourceful
  • An excellent communicator, curious and quick-thinking, able to converse freely with people and explain ideas, concepts and plans
  • Comfortable working on a laptop computer, knowledge of databases and be IT proficient in Google Suite and Mac computers
  • Some knowledge regarding contemporary art and art practises.
  • Flexible - this job includes regular weekend work and occasional evening work
  • Comfortable lone working and working in a team
  • Willingness to undertake a wide range of duties, including manual work

Job Responsibilities

  • Being actively informed in order to be able to discuss the work on show and in the stock rooms
  • Building strong client relationships: maintaining and developing Gallery contacts and mailing lists in order to consultatively manage client expectations and generate sales
  • Familiarity with retail procedures, credit systems and limitations therein
  • Ability to manage aftercare process, including packaging and shipping, to maintain a well rounded positive experience for clients
  • Operating Gallery routines during opening hours: opening and closing, greeting visitors, keeping a tally of visitor figures and catalogue sales, invigilating
  • Dealing with suppliers and artists as necessary
  • Maintaining cleanliness and order of the Gallery
  • Contributing enthusiastically to the development of the service and maintaining a positive atmosphere within the space
  • Answer public enquiries and provide help for guests in person, by phone or email
  • Support of management with other tasks as required
