Description

Job Summary

Female performer/dancer for Myth Monster: a cross-artform live piece, in which storytelling, dance and participation combine to create a unique, joyful and beautifully integrated headphone experience.

Job Description

Myth Monster is a journey through time, from the deep time in which our planet and our species evolved, to the future, which will be shaped by the stories we tell. It's about the unfolding of human history, and the wonder and possibility of life.

This is a solo role, and you will be performing to a pre-recorded audio track which includes narration and original music. You won't speak live during the show (although there may be some lip-sync). You'll perform to an audience of around 60 who will be wearing silent disco headphones, moving around and among the audience during the performance; sometimes encouraging the audience to move too.

The role acts as host/facilitator, and embodies the central character in the piece, Liv. She guides the audience through the experience and the story, elements of which include introducing a timeline of the planet, interacting with a robot assistant, and leading the audience on a journey back in time to the fire circles of our ancestors. Part way through the show Liv transforms into a monster, and then back again...

You might be a dancer, or a performer with a specialism in movement. Much of the performance is gentle and detailed, but we think that the monster transformation sequence will probably be physically intense and high-energy.

Job Requirements

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is naturally at ease with audience engagement and facilitation.
  • Is skilled and precise with movement/dance, facial expressions and audience interaction.
  • Can devise as part of a team, responding to ideas, text and music.
  • Can confidently find/develop the movement while working with the director and movement director.
  • Can thoughtfully navigate a performance with big, complex themes (climate crisis, anxiety, hope for the future) while finding moments of joy and lightness with the audience.
  • Enjoys performing in non-theatre spaces eg. schools, community spaces, festivals.

If you feel that you're right for this role, we would love to hear from you whatever your background, age, ethnicity, disability or sexual orientation.
