Job Description

The Museum Collections and Exhibitions Officer shall oversee the management and care of the museums vast collection including; documentation, photographs, and objects. They shall develop and implement collections managements policies, procedures, in line with museum standards and accreditation requirements. The role also involves acquisition, loans, and disposals of collection items. The Museum Collections and Exhibitions Officer shall bring our collection to life by developing exhibitions for the public, with a focus on accessibility, working alongside our engagement team and the Funding and Grants Officer.

Job Requirements

The role is a part time role, hours will be 21.54.
There can be some flexibility around whether the successful applicant will work 3 days a week or up to 5 shorter days. The working days are normally between Monday and Friday, maybe some requirement for the odd Saturday.

Please note the salary quoted will be pro rata based on the part time hours.

Based at the West Midlands Police Museum, 40 Steelhouse Lane, Birmingham, B4 6BJ

Successful applicants will be required to pass Recruitment Vetting and Counter Terrorism Clearance scrutiny prior to commencing their role, this will include a full background & financial disclosure as part of the vetting process.

Successful applicants will be subject to a medical assessment which may include a drug or hearing test.

Job Responsibilities

The Museum Collections and Exhibitions Officer manages and cares for the museum's collection, ensuring its proper documentation, preservation, and accessibility. This includes tasks like cataloguing objects, maintaining records, monitoring environmental conditions, and developing and supporting exhibitions.

Supporting in the identification and development of grant and funding opportunities to maximise the opportunities for WMP Museum.

To be responsible for the seamless and efficient day-to-day management and preservation of the museum's collections and organising a programme of high-quality, engaging exhibitions at the museum.

Enhancing the visitor experience and journey at every opportunity, this is a vital role to support the museum tell the stories of the past while taking every opportunity to communicate important information and messaging from policing today.

Ensure the museum's collections are accessible and interpreted effectively for all audiences.
