Supported by Thunk-It Theatres Associate Director, Jules Risingham, the trainee will be part of the Thunk-It team, attending relevant meetings, creating and distributing marketing materials and having the opportunity to learn about community arts.

Fee: £13.00 an hour - totalling £104/day

26 day (8hrs)s over 1 year (June 2025-May 2026).

Total contract fee - £2,704 on a freelance basis.

Hours: Working half a day per week (4 hours).

Location: Mixture of Remote and In-person (York and surrounding towns).

Reports to: Associate Director.

About the Role:

Trainees will document their learning in a creative medium, a journal, video, scrapbook, etc.

This traineeship will work closely with opportunities for early career and emerging artists to learn, practise and develop alongside highly experienced participatory artists. As the programme progresses, trainees will be supported to design and deliver the marketing for a large scale community project. The trainees will have a training budget to put towards further training, qualifications and learning opportunities.

What are the advantages of doing a Traineeship?

You will be paid as a freelancer whilst training and developing your network and skills. During the traineeship you will have access to our resources, training opportunities, and be supported to learn about freelancer practice.

This traineeship is part time and can be fit around individuals needs. This allows for flexibility around parenting, other studying or caring responsibilities.

Will there be a job at the end of it?

There are no guarantees of paid employment at the end of the traineeship.

We would be open to the possibility of a job share set up.

Job Requirements

Essential:

  • Interested in developing skills in marketing for theatre.
  • Willing to reflect on your practice individually and with others.
  • Able to start in June 2025.
  • Excited by the opportunity to collaborate with other artists and professionals.
  • A good listener and happy to take constructive feedback.

Desirable:

  • Experience in marketing or outreach in community or theatre company settings
  • Passionate about expanding your work in community and youth focused work.
  • Able to work flexibly and across the communities of Yorkshire and the East Riding, with the ability to travel between different settings for workshops.

Job Responsibilities

We are looking for individuals who are local to East Yorkshire and or York and who are interested in developing their skills in community arts practice and marketing for theatre.
