Description

Job Summary

Passionate about empowering young people through drama? Join Chain Reaction to co-facilitate Act Up - an inspiring 11-week theatre and mentoring programme at a boy’s school in Newham. Help young men aged 13–16 build confidence, creativity and positive change.

Job Description

We're seeking an energetic, streetwise and inspiring male drama facilitator to join Chain Reaction, an award-winning London-based charity using theatre and media to ignite personal and social change since 1994.

From January to March 2026, we're launching Act Up at a boys' school in Newham, East London - a dynamic 11-week confidence and resilience-building programme for vulnerable young men aged 13-16.

Act Up supports students whose behaviour or attendance may be affecting their learning. A key aim of the programme is to reduce youth violence by using creative, theatre-based activities and inspiring participants to re-engage with school, build motivation and exceed expectations.

Through a pre-designed programme of role play, discussion and performance, Act Up offers 'at-risk' young men positive, creative experiences that develop self-belief, teamwork, communication and emotional intelligence.

Because the project is delivered in a boy's school and designed to support vulnerable young men, we are seeking a male facilitator who can provide strong, positive role modelling. Many of the boys may have limited access to positive male influences. A male facilitator helps challenge stereotypes around masculinity and models healthier, non-violent ways of communicating. By showing that strength and sensitivity can coexist, the facilitator helps these young men build confidence, resilience and responsibility - contributing to safer schools and stronger communities.

This is an 11-week contract running from Wednesday 7 January to Wednesday 25 March 2026 (no session on 18 February for half term).

  • Session times: Wednesday afternoons.
  • Format: 8 single sessions (2.5 hours each) and 3 double sessions (4 hours each), including setup and debrief.
  • Pay: £95 per single session/£122 per double session.

This is a unique opportunity to join a bold, purpose-driven project making a real difference to young lives through creativity, energy and heart.

Job Requirements

  • Proven experience working with vulnerable young people aged 13-16 from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong drama, facilitation or performance background.
  • Excellent communication, empathy and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to engage and motivate groups using creative approaches.
  • Confident in managing group dynamics and supporting vulnerable participants.
  • Reliable, punctual and adaptable to varied school settings.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles.
  • DBS-checked (or willingness to obtain).
  • Availability during and after school hours.

Job Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, drama-based workshops using Act Up session plans.
  • Create a safe, inclusive and motivating environment for young people.
  • Collaborate with a co-facilitator and workshop lead to ensure high-quality delivery.
  • Use creativity and performance to inspire self-expression and teamwork.
  • Adapt content and style to meet the needs of diverse participants.
  • Model positive behaviour and act as a relatable role model.
  • Monitor engagement and wellbeing, reporting safeguarding concerns as needed.
  • Contribute to debriefs, training and programme evaluation.
