Job Description
- Take a lead on the LX load out during the weekly venue moves.
- Power on, power off, rig check and operate all performances to the highest of standards
- Report any issues in regards to the lighting rig through the show reports and/or through a separate line of written communication
- Troubleshoot and rectify any issues as efficiently as possible to make sure the performances run as planned. If there is an issue that requires external assistance, this must be raised through written channels to the Production Manager, company manager and general management teams. The LX1 will be expected to organise the troubleshooting of these issues
- Keep all lighting paperwork up to date and accurate, and generate any new paperwork as and when changes are made
- Take a lead and organise all preventative maintenance calls as regularly as the management team sees fit
- Look ahead to the venues to come and highlight any concerns.
- Book and manage freelance electricians as and when required to undergo maintenance or take on any major fixes.
- Book and organise annual PAT Testing, in collaboration with the Production Manager
- Ensure all power related risk is managed daily
- Re-focus lighting fixtures when needed
- Ensure that security, safety and good housekeeping procedures for the department are properly carried out.
- Keep all lighting work stations and areas clean and tidy and in good working order.
- Accommodate visiting companies where necessary, along with the venue technical team, and ensure all show specifics are still in good working order after external use
- Keep deputy lists up to date, and train relevant individuals
- Order any lighting related consumables with the company managers petty cash and approval
- Ensure all lighting equipment is in good working order at all times
- Comply with the Manager's Health and Safety policies
- Take on any other duties reasonably asked of an LX1 in a first class touring venueJob Requirements
- Experience relighting a musical
- Experience with ETC family lighting desks
- Have excellent knowledge of generic and intelligent lighting fixtures
- Have excellent experience working within a technical and show call team
- Be able to operate without being cued by a DSM and be able to train other operators in doing so
- Taking direction: communicate well with other crew members and be able to produce the required effects
- Work well under pressure: be able to concentrate in a live environment, be precise and exact with the cueing of all lighting.
- Knowledge of equipment: understand how to operate, clean and repair the relevant equipment and be able to troubleshoot any issues
- Understanding of the industry: have a strong understanding of how touring theatre works
- Health and Safety: be knowledgeable about and able to abide by relevant Health and Safety laws when using electrical equipmentUseful Links
