Head of Costume and Wigs

Committed to producing high quality work that informs, excites and entertains, Opera North is looking for an experienced and well-motivated individual to fill the role of Head of Costume and Wigs.

The successful candidate will have proven experience in large scale costume design, production, and management. You will have excellent organisational, administrative and communication skills, with attention to detail and the ability to prioritise under pressure.

Salary: £42,000 - £50,000 per annum

Hours: 35 per week

Job Requirements

Experience / skills required:

Proven experience in large scale costume
design, production, and management
Practical expertise in costume making,
tailoring, and construction
Effective manager of stakeholders
relationships with production teams
Ability to produce and monitor departmental
budgets
Training in H&S management

Functional/ leadership competencies:

Excellent communication skills for
collaboration across departments and external
stakeholders
Creative problem-solving under tight deadlines
Ability to work well within a team
Ability to deal proactively with company
requirements
Awareness of Health and Safety regulations
within the industry
IT literate, with emphasis on Word and Excel

Job Responsibilities

Key accountabilities:

The Head of Costume and Wigs will be
responsible, in consultation with the Technical
Director, for the realisation and running of the
costume and make-up departments for the
company's productions in all venues and any
oversees venues as required, within budget,
time and technical parameters
Assess requirements of a production and advise
on feasibility, facilities, work sequences and
budgets
Discuss, report and communicate progress with
the creative teams and all HODs and appropriate
stakeholders
Attend planning meetings and be part of
ensuring deliverability of productions
Oversee relevant departmental schedules

Prepare future production budgets as directed
Manage allocated budgets for each production
ensuring Supervisors are controlling and
reporting their budgets and take corrective
action when needed
Advise the Technical Director on the suitability,
quantity, and cost-effectiveness of the design
