Application deadline: 25th March 2026, 23:59 Location: Chelsea, London [Regal Place] Salary: £29,000 - £35,000 per annum DOE. Reports to: Senior Cataloguer, Cataloguing Manager. Hours: 10.00-18.00, 5 days per week, to include alternate Saturdays. About us: One of the leading rare book dealers in the world and the largest antiquarian book dealer in Europe, Peter Harrington has, for over half a century, dealt with a stock of thousands of fine books, from rare seventeenth-century Shakespeare folios to highly sought-after contemporary classics such as signed and inscribed first editions of the Harry Potter series. We have a team of over 70 staff across 3 sites in London, as well as a branch in New York. Our principal specialties include literature, economics, politics, philosophy, travel, navigation, military history, science and medicine, children's books, and fine library sets. We exhibit regularly at several international book and antique fairs and look to continue our growth as one of the leaders in our field. We are seeking to appoint a general cataloguer to join our team. The primary aspects of the role will involve researching and cataloguing rare books, for which we will train you in our house style. We are looking for someone who can confidently manage and deliver a high volume of cataloguing to a consistently high standard. You'll be working alongside our senior specialists across several departments, in Literature, History, Travel & Exploration, and Economics & Social Sciences. To be successful in this role you'll need superb written English and research skills, and meticulous attention to detail.

Job Requirements

Essential skills and experience Excellent spoken and written English. Strong research skills. Awareness and knowledge of, or interest in, books and/or printed media. Ability to maintain high-quality work while meeting tight deadlines. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A meticulous, highly organised approach and keen eye for detail. Desirable, but not essential Knowledge of a second language Familiarity with rare/antiquarian books and the rare book trade. Experience using FileMaker or other database systems.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities Examine, collate, and enter descriptions of books into our database. Researching and cataloguing of material. Assist with shop duties when required, including responding to customer queries via phone and email. As your expertise develops, the role will involve: Maintaining specialist knowledge of the global book trade including sources of supply, e.g., auctions, booksellers, third party websites and private individuals. Travel overseas, both as part of a team or alone, as the company's representative.
