Description

Job Summary

Are you passionate about plants, heritage landscapes and creating beautiful outdoor spaces? We’re looking for a dedicated part time Gardener to join our vibrant Garden Team at Brighton & Hove Museums.

Job Description

This is a unique chance to play a key role in caring for some of the city's most iconic and historically significant gardens. The Royal Pavilion Garden is at the heart of our work. With a £6.2 million National Lottery Heritage Fund bid recently submitted, this is an especially exciting moment to help shape its restoration and future.

You'll also work across the gardens at Preston Manor, including its Edwardian Walled Garden and peaceful wildlife-rich spaces. With opportunities for future development, community partnerships, and creative collaboration with historians, artists and museum professionals, this role offers far more than traditional gardening.

As part of our team, you'll help conserve, preserve and enhance our outdoor environments, while also contributing to research that influences how visitors experience these historic spaces. Access to extensive archives and historical material makes this an ideal role for someone who loves horticulture and history.

This role is part-time, 15 hours per week.

Job Requirements

What you'll be doing:
Keeping our gardens looking their best through high quality maintenance: mowing, pruning, weeding and caring for herbaceous plants and shrubs.
Working alongside and guiding volunteers and apprentices.
Engaging with the public-answering questions and supporting tours as a friendly, knowledgeable ambassador for our gardens.

Job Responsibilities

If you're enthusiastic, collaborative and inspired by the idea of working within a museum landscape rich in stories, heritage and natural beauty, we'd love to hear from you.

If you would like to have an informal discussion regarding this role, please contact Rob Boyle, Head Gardener at [email protected]
