Freelance Duty/Technical Manager with strong theatre tech and social media experience required to support evening and weekend operations at Collective Acting Studio. 2 to 3 shifts per month (14h-21h). £17 ph (duty) / £20 ph (tech).

Job Description

Collective Acting Studio is seeking an experienced Freelance Duty/Technical Manager to provide operational and technical support for its Part-Time School, Short Courses for Professional Actors, and Youth Academy programmes.

This is a freelance role, offering occasional evening and weekend shifts at first (2-3 shifts per month, at 14-21h).

The role involves both duty management and technical support - ensuring the safe, efficient, and professional running of classes, rehearsals, and performances. Includes opportunities to tech performances and events.

Candidates with additional skills in video or audio editing, website design/management, or social media communications are particularly encouraged to apply, as there may be opportunities to contribute to creative and digital projects across the organisation.

Job Requirements

Proven theatre technical experience (lighting, sound, or stage operations).

Strong email and written communication skills; professional and responsive online manner.

Excellent organisation, time management, and problem-solving abilities.

Understanding of health and safety and building procedures.

Ability to work independently during evening and weekend shifts.

Reliable, proactive, and customer-focused.

Interest in performing arts and arts education.

Desirable: Experience with ETC lighting desks, sound systems, and/or social media.

Bonus: Skills in video editing, website design, or digital media.

Job Responsibilities

Oversee evening and weekend operations for classes, rehearsals, and performances.

Act as Duty Manager, ensuring smooth running, safety, and excellent customer service.

Provide technical support for lighting, sound, and AV during shows and events.

Open and close the building; conduct regular health, safety, and maintenance checks.

Supervise freelance Front of House staff when on duty.

Manage and respond promptly to emails and enquiries related to short courses, bookings, and operational matters.

Maintain clear written communication and accurate reporting to the Head of Operations.

Support short course delivery and assist with administrative tasks where required.

Create effective social media content, including video editing.
