Join Mancunianity Flows, an Arts Council England-funded participatory audio-theatre project. We are seeking an experienced Actor-Musician to support workshops with older residents and help deliver six public audio walks exploring memory, belonging and the River Irwell.Sme live singing.

Job Description

FEE: £2,600 fixed freelance commission.
Guaranteed working commitment: 80 hours in total between October and December 2026.
The hours cover workshop preparation and delivery, creative development, song co-creation, rehearsals, production meetings, live narration, audience leadership and delivery of six public audio-theatre walks across 18-20 December 2026.
Mancunianity Flows: Walking the First Modern City is seeking an experienced Actor-Musician to help create and deliver an Arts Council England-funded participatory audio-theatre project developed with older residents from Manchester and Salford.

We are looking for a versatile performer who combines strong musical and theatrical skills with experience of working collaboratively with communities.

Essential

Strong singing and performance skills.
Experience as a musician, actor-musician or musical theatre performer.
Experience facilitating creative activity with groups.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Confidence leading audiences in public spaces.
Commitment to inclusive and participant-centred practice.

Desirable

Experience of co-creating work with communities.
Experience working with older people.
Outdoor or site-responsive performance experience.
Folk, acoustic, community singing or participatory music experience.
Knowledge of Manchester and Salford.

Please note that this is a fixed-fee freelance commission rather than a salaried position.We are looking for an experienced performer with excellent communication, singing/playing and facilitation skills.

Strong interpersonal and listening skills
Commitment to accessibility and inclusion
Availability between October and December 2026

Desirable:
Experience working with older people
Applied theatre or participatory arts experience

Key Responsibilities

Co-facilitate 10 creative workshops with older residents.
Lead confidence-building, storytelling and voice work activities.
Support participants to develop personal stories and creative content.
Collaborate with participants to co-create a short interactive song for public performance.
Develop and perform up to three short interactive songs as part of the audio-walk experience.
Provide live narration and storytelling throughout the public walks.
Act as lead walk host, guiding audiences safely and confidently along the route and performing 3 short songs at a seated area.
Work closely with the Producer and Audio Associate to integrate live and recorded material.
Contribute creatively to rehearsal, route development and performance preparation.
Support an inclusive, welcoming and accessible participant experience.
