We are seeking a friendly, reliable, and proactive Front of House Assistant to be the welcoming face of Forty Hall. This is an exciting opportunity to work in one of Enfield's most treasured historic venues, where no two days are the same.

As Front of House Assistant, you'll play a vital role in ensuring every visitor enjoys a smooth, safe, and engaging experience. You'll support the day-to-day operation of the Hall, help deliver exceptional customer service, and contribute to the success of our events, hires, and commercial activity.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Acting as the first point of contact for visitors in person, by phone or email, offering a warm and inclusive welcome and providing clear, accurate information.
  • Supporting the reception area, events, hires, and gift shop (both in-person and online).
  • Leading guided tours of the Hall, focusing on its heritage and venue hire opportunities.
  • Monitoring the site, supporting maintenance tasks, and liaising with contractors as required.
  • Supervising casual staff and volunteers during your shifts.
  • Collaborating with the wider Forty Hall team to enhance the visitor experience, grow our audiences, and support commercial use of the venue.

Contract details:

  • Role: Front of House Assistant
  • Hours: 36 per week, includes regular weekend, evening and Bank Holiday work
  • Overtime: No additional payment, however Time Off in Lieu (TOIL) can be arranged

Job Requirements

  1. Experience in a customer facing environment, preferably in an arts, heritage or visitor attraction context
  2. Experience of IT systems such as box office, computerised tills, venue management software
  3. Experience of cash handling and basic financial procedures
  4. Experience of working within a small team
  5. Experience of supporting marketing, visitor experience, learning, hires, weddings or outdoor events
  6. Friendly, flexible and proactive with commitment to inclusive customer service

Job Responsibilities

  • Open, close, and secure the premises, prepare rooms and equipment for hires, and maintain cleanliness during shifts.

  • Welcome visitors in person, by phone, and by email; sell tickets via the box office, process bookings, and provide event information.

  • Oversee events and functions, handle customer feedback, and support casual staff and volunteers.

  • Deliver in areas such as marketing, visitor experience, learning, or hires, including weddings and outdoor events.

  • Lead heritage tours and share knowledge of the Hall's history.

  • Handle cash, reconcile income, take deliveries, and oversee contractors.

  • Liaise with supervisors on maintenance, refuse, and emergencies; provide first aid when trained.

  • Manage and update event listings, share information with the team, and carry out other duties in line with Council policies.
