The Finance Manager is responsible for the reliable day-to-day operation of BCMG's finance function. The postholder will own bookkeeping, payroll, month-end processes, reconciliations, budget monitoring and the preparation of draft management information, working with the Head of Finance who provides strategic oversight, final review of quarterly Board reporting and leadership of the statutory accounts and audit. This is a hands-on role requiring an experienced finance professional who can work independently, maintain strong controls and provide useful support to colleagues and budget holders within a small arts charity. Reports to: Head of Finance, with day-to-day working and prioritisation agreed with the Executive Director. We are looking for someone with at least three years' relevant finance experience and strong practical knowledge of bookkeeping, ledgers, payment runs, reconciliations, journals and month-end processes. You should have experience preparing management information, budgets or forecasts, payroll and pensions, VAT, and routine financial compliance, plus knowledge of charity accounting and restricted funds. You will be AAT-qualified, part-qualified with a professional accountancy body, or able to demonstrate equivalent expertise, with strong Xero or comparable cloud-accounting and spreadsheet skills. You should be accurate, organised, able to work independently and communicate financial information clearly. Experience in the arts or charity sector, grant/project accounting, audit support, Orchestra Tax Relief or international VAT is desirable. The Finance Manager will lead the reliable day-to-day operation of BCMG's finance function, maintaining accurate records in Xero, processing invoices, payments, expenses and income, and managing reconciliations, month-end journals and restricted/project funds. The Finance Manager will process payroll and pensions, prepare VAT returns and supporting schedules for Orchestra Tax Relief, and maintain routine compliance records. The Finance Manager will prepare draft management accounts, cashflow and variance reports, support budgets and forecasts, provide financial information to budget holders and funders, and prepare reconciliations and evidence for annual accounts, independent examination and Board reporting. The Finance Manager will also help improve financial procedures, controls and systems, and act as the first point of contact for routine finance queries. Hours: 14-21 hours per week (0.4-0.6 FTE), normally worked across two/three days, including regular overlap with the Head of Finance.
Salary: £27,800-£32,000 FTE, depending on experience (£11,120-£12,800 pro rata for 14 hours per week; £16,680-£19,200 pro rata for 21 hours per week).
Contract: Permanent, subject to a six-month probationary period
Location: Birmingham/hybrid working, with regular attendance at CBSO Centre.
