Description

Job Summary

To take responsibility for the smooth running of South Mill Arts events and operations whilst on duty, leading the Front of House team, managing the bar and conferencing function, and ensuring an exceptional experience for every visitor.

Job Description

South Mill Arts is a vibrant and iconic arts centre and museum in Bishop's Stortford where no two days are the same. By day, we're a busy community hub; groups and classes fill the building, the bar runs like a cafe, and you'll be juggling box office enquiries, phone calls, and whatever else the day throws at you. By night, we're a premier destination for touring productions, with 300 people queuing for a drink, sourdough pizzas flying about and a buzz in the air that never gets old. Whether it's a quiet Tuesday morning or a sold-out Saturday night, we need you to keep your cool, lead from the front, and make it look effortless - every single shift.

Our events programme is growing fast and we're investing in the team that makes it all happen. If you thrive in a fast-paced, creative environment and want to be part of a venue that's genuinely going places, we want to hear from you.

This listing is for 2 roles:
1) 24 hours per week (£17,472)
2) 32 hours per week (£23,296)

Job Requirements

Act as Duty Manager during your shift, ensuring the smooth and safe operation of the building - caf , bar and every space in use.

Lead and motivate bar staff and ushers during productions and events, keeping the team sharp and the experience exceptional.

Proactively manage room hires, staying on top of the rota and each room's requirements as multiple hirers come and go throughout the day.

Undertake reception duties including box office operation using the ticketing system.

Act as the main point of contact for all inbound enquiries - phone, email and in person - handling each one with the same professionalism and warmth.

Be a living, breathing ambassador for the arts centre and museum; know the programme inside out and be a genuine font of knowledge for visitors and hirers alike.

Operate till systems on both reception and bar with confidence, and reconcile takings at the end of every shift.

Job Responsibilities

Take full responsibility for health and safety on site during your shift, including first aid and leading evacuation if required.

Appraise visiting companies of fire safety procedures and carry out regular checks that fire exits are clear and exit doors are closed.
As a key-holder, you will often be the first person on site or the last to leave - opening up and locking down the building correctly, every time, is one of the most important parts of this role.

Personal Specification and Skills

Essential

Extremely motivated, strong team player with proven supervisory experience.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to confidently develop working relationships across a busy, varied team.

Outstanding customer care skills with real experience of delivering excellent service in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

Strong time management and organisational skills with the ability to work effectively under pressure and to tight deadlines.
