Working closely with teachers and students, the project will create a suite of new online resources for GCSE and A Level music students in state schools. The Composer-Educator will play a key role in the development of these resources, collaborating with programme leader Paul Clark, mentoring students, and working alongside teachers. The role is ideal for a composer passionate about sharing their musical expertise with young people. The Composer-Educator will also serve as a positive role model for students who may face challenges in their education or feel insecure about their skills. As such we would strongly encourage applications from candidates that have been educated in the state school system. We welcome applications from young and emerging composers. Fee: £200 per day Contract: Freelance Period: 25 days annually, over 2 years Total contract value: £10,000 Location: This role is open to candidates based in/near Birmingham or Manchester where our key partner schools are located. Occasional travel to London will also be required. Travel expenses outside of "home base" will be reimbursed. Essential Skills: Passion for sharing musical knowledge and mentoring young musicians. Open-minded approach to diverse musical genres and a willingness to explore unfamiliar styles. Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain music creation clearly to young people. Proficiency in at least one DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). Competency in at least one music notation program (Sibelius, Dorico, MuseScore, etc.). Willingness to learn new software. Solid understanding of music theory (jazz or classical). Desirable Skills: Experience with multiple musical genres (e.g. pop, classical, jazz, electronica, film music, songwriting). Has taken GCSE and/or A Level Music (or equivalent qualifications). Understanding of socio-economic barriers to education and career development. Experience teaching composition or educating young people in formal or informal settings Key Responsibilities: Research, test, and create new educational content for the Ear Opener project. Collaborate with teachers to deliver sessions and develop resources tailored to the needs of GCSE and A Level music students. Mentor and support students, helping them develop their creative confidence. Work closely with the programme leader to ensure the project's success.
