Job Summary

The Director of Enterprise and External Engagement will drive ArtsEd’s commercial growth and external relations, leading Marketing, Development, Outreach, and supporting Recruitment. They will shape long-term strategy, foster collaboration, and strengthen the institution’s market position.

Job Description

Departmental Management & Oversight

Provide clear and supportive line management to direct reports, including the Marketing Manager, Head of Development, and Extras Manager, and lead future expansion of the team to include Lettings and Events. Oversee Recruitment and Admissions across the Day School, Sixth Form, and Higher Education, working closely with relevant teams. Promote a collaborative, high-performing culture and support managers with setting objectives, managing budgets, and delivering operational plans. Encourage staff development and professional growth.

Operational Delivery

Ensure strategies, marketing activity, recruitment, development, and outreach work are aligned with institutional growth targets. Monitor performance with department heads, address challenges, and adjust resources as needed. Provide data-led reports to the Principal and Board. Maintain insight into the independent education sector, tracking competitors, trends, and opportunities. Lead development of income-generating ventures, including lettings and events.

External Relations & Stakeholder Engagement

Act as an ambassador for commercial and external engagement, building relationships with prospective families, alumni, donors, partners, and community groups. Represent the institution at events to strengthen reputation. Oversee consistent external communications and support donor stewardship with the Principal and Development team. Build partnerships that broaden reach and create shared value.

Innovation & Market Development

Identify emerging trends and opportunities to enhance competitive advantage. Develop new initiatives, such as lettings, events, summer schools, and international partnerships, supported by business cases. Promote creativity within teams and evaluate new projects against KPIs. Stay informed on digital marketing, engagement, and fundraising innovation to improve performance.

Job Requirements

Person Specification

Essential

Degree-level education or equivalent senior experience.

Significant leadership experience in commercial, marketing, fundraising, or external engagement roles.

Proven success in developing and delivering multi-year growth strategies and generating income.

Experience managing multiple functions, budgets, and high-performing teams.

Strong commercial acumen with ability to interpret financial, operational, and market data.

Expertise in marketing, recruitment, fundraising, and brand management.

Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and project management skills.

Proficiency in digital tools, CRM systems, and analytics.

Entrepreneurial, innovative, collaborative, and customer-focused approach.

Resilient, adaptable, and solutions-focused with high levels of integrity.
