Job Summary

St John Ambulance and the Museum of the Order of St John are looking for an experienced digital artist to lead a participatory project with St John Ambulance Cadets (aged 11-17).

Job Description

First Aid - Then. Now. Next.

St John Ambulance has been awarded a £240,026 grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund to deliver a project exploring 150 years of community first aid, as the charity prepares to celebrate its foundation in 1877. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to explore, share and celebrate our heritage with our volunteers and the communities we serve.

This project is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery Players.

We are seeking to commission a freelance digital artist to deliver a participatory arts project for Cadets (aged 11-17), drawing inspiration from the Museum's photographic collection which documents the teaching, practice and delivery of first aid from the 1870s to the present.

Working closely with the Museum's Learning and Engagement team, the successful artist will design and deliver an exciting programme of in-person workshops for Cadets and support them to create a collaborative artwork that can be shared digitally with external and internal audiences. It will be particularly focused on engaging other young people but should be accessible to all. The project will use the collections to imagine the first aid of the future.

The commission is open to artists working in any digital medium including photography, film, sound and animation.

*A commitment to keeping children and young people safe and follow St John Ambulance's Safeguarding Policy.
