Job Summary

Norfolk Museums Service is looking to appoint a Development Officer. This is a fixed term post to cover maternity leave until 31 October 2026. The post is 22.2 hours per week, based in Norwich at our offices in Shirehall, with a salary of £31,537 - £33,699 per annum pro rata.

Job Description

Norfolk Museums Service is looking to appoint a highly motivated Development Officer to help grow support for our museums, heritage projects and community programmes.

You will work closely with the Head of Development and trustees of the Norfolk Museums Development Foundation to secure vital income from trusts and foundations, individual donors and corporate sponsors. You will play a key role in researching prospects, writing funding bids, organising cultivation events and overseeing the stewardship of our funders.

The postholder also works closely with the Communications Manager on PR and advocacy campaigns to raise awareness of the service's achievements and strengthen our reputation with funders, stakeholders and partners.

The successful candidate will be a confident communicator with excellent organisational skills, and have experience of successful fundraising and event planning, preferably within the arts and heritage sectors.

Job Requirements

The Development Officer will closely with the Head of Development to meet Norfolk Museum Service's fundraising targets by securing donations from trusts and foundations, individuals and corporate sponsors. The postholder will be responsible for prospect research, writing applications, event planning and stewardship, and will also support the Trustees of the Norfolk Museums Development Foundation to develop and deliver their fundraising strategy.

We are looking for an individual with the following skills and experience:

  • Experience of writing funding applications with a successful track record
  • Experience of event planning and delivery
  • Proven ability to undertake research and assimilate data
  • Experience of creating social media content in a work context
  • A demonstrable interest in culture and heritage
  • Confident networking skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong visual awareness and presentation skills.

Job Responsibilities

Norfolk Museums Service's development team is responsible for fundraising, communications, advocacy and PR to increase income and promote all of our ten museums. The responsibilities of the Development Officer are to:

  • Undertake prospect research and contribute to the cultivation of potential new funders.
  • Prepare grant applications and sponsorship proposals.
  • Lead on the stewardship of existing funders by providing regular communications, meeting reporting requirements, and organising visits.
  • Manage the planning and delivery of events and private view for donors, sponsors and prospects.
  • Provide the secretariat for the board of the Norfolk Museums Development Foundation.
  • Collaborate with the communications manager on the production of reports, newsletters and advocacy campaigns that build a strong reputation for the Service with funders and project partners.
