Description

Job Summary

Help us reach new audiences. Join Gloucestershire Libraries as Development Officer, using creativity, insight and community engagement to make our libraries welcoming and relevant.

Job Description

Gloucestershire Libraries are looking for a creative, curious and community-minded Development Officer to join our Development Team.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in growing and diversifying our audiences. You'll help us understand who we're reaching, who we're not, and develop new ways to connect people and communities with the cultural, creative and learning opportunities our libraries offer.

With a strong focus on audience development, marketing and engagement, you'll use insight and evidence to turn ideas into action. You might develop campaigns to reach new audiences, build partnerships with community and cultural organisations, help shape creative projects, or explore new approaches to engaging people who face barriers to participation.

We're looking for someone who can combine creativity with practical delivery. You'll be confident building relationships, communicating with different audiences and managing projects from initial idea through to delivery and evaluation.

You don't need to come from a traditional library background. We'd particularly welcome applicants with experience in audience development, arts and culture, community engagement, marketing, communications or creative project delivery who can bring fresh ideas and perspectives to our work.

This is a great opportunity to help shape the future of Gloucestershire Libraries and ensure our service continues to become more inclusive, relevant and connected to the communities we serve. The role reflects our current focus on reaching newly identified harder-to-reach audiences.

Job Requirements

You'll have experience in areas such as audience development, community engagement, marketing, communications, arts and culture or project delivery, with the ability to turn ideas and insight into practical activity.

You'll need:

-Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with confidence working with communities, partners and colleagues.
-Experience of developing and delivering projects, campaigns or engagement activity.
-An understanding of audience development and how insight and data can help reach and engage new audiences.
-The ability to create engaging communications for different audiences and channels.
-Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
-A collaborative approach, combined with the confidence to work independently and take initiative.
-A commitment to inclusion, accessibility and reducing barriers to participation.

Job Responsibilities

As Development Officer, you will:

-Develop and deliver audience development and engagement activity to reach new and underrepresented audiences.
-Use audience insight, feedback and data to identify barriers, opportunities and priorities for development.
-Plan and deliver creative campaigns, projects and initiatives that encourage participation in library services.
-Build relationships with community groups, cultural organisations and other partners to extend our reach.
-Support the development of inclusive and accessible activities that respond to the needs of different communities.
-Work with colleagues to develop engaging marketing and communications across a range of channels.
-Coordinate projects from initial concept through to delivery, monitoring and evaluation.
-Test new approaches, capture learning and use evaluation to improve future activity.
-Champion audience needs and help ensure community connection and inclusion are embedded across our work.
