Job Summary

Cathedral Music Trust is seeking a Development Director to lead strategic income growth and play a critical role in supporting music-making in the UK’s cathedrals and beyond.

Job Description

Cathedral Music Trust is a national charity dedicated to transforming lives through the power of cathedral music. We seek a visionary and skilled Development Director to lead our ambitious fundraising strategy and help secure vital support for our expanding national programmes.

Reporting to the CEO and working alongside a passionate Board and talented Development team, you'll play a central role in delivering sustainable income from a range of income streams, directly focusing on major gifts of five/six figures whilst overseeing and providing strategic insight across individual giving, trusts and foundations, corporate partnerships, and legacy giving

This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced and ambitious fundraising professional with excellent relationship-building skills and a strong strategic mindset. If you have a passion for the beauty of choral music and are looking to join a vibrant, forward-thinking and impactful organisation, we'd love to hear from you.

Job Requirements

As Development Director, you drive income generation across a range of income streams, with a focus on securing major gifts from high-net-worth individuals.

We are looking for someone with the initiative, confidence and organisational skills to build a robust major donor programme from the ground up. This is a proactive role focused on identifying prospects, making meaningful connections, and closing significant major gifts of five/six figures. You'll bring creativity, resilience and ambition to help us reach new supporters and inspire them to invest in our vision.

This is the perfect role for someone who thrives on building relationships and making things happen. You'll be supported by a collaborative team and driven by a cause that resonates deeply with donors who value music, education and cultural heritage.

Job Responsibilities

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Leading fundraising across individual giving, legacies, trusts, and sponsorships
  • Prioritising the acquisition and cultivation of major donors
  • Developing tailored campaigns and compelling cases for support
  • Working closely with the CEO, Trustees and volunteers to grow networks and influence
  • Managing a small, dedicated Development team and overseeing planning and reporting

Suitable candidates will have a proven track record of securing major gifts and the confidence to lead conversations with high-net-worth individuals. This role is about getting out there, identifying new prospects, and knowing how and when to make the ask. We're not looking for someone to steward an existing portfolio; we're looking for someone who can build one.
