Job Description

The postholder contributes strategic & practical leadership for 4 core areas of transformation at the Barber over the next 2 years: its building, identity, business modelling, & people/working culture.

The postholder is the Director's Deputy in these areas with a responsibility towards the University of Birmingham & the Barber's public communities. The postholder works closely with the Director & the Deputy Director: Collections & Research in setting the forward agenda for the Barber. They are a visible & active advocate, representing the Barber in professional networks, relevant sector sharing events & collaborations. The postholder researches, initiates, develops & sustains productive relationships across the University's Colleges, promoting the Barber's contribution to the Birmingham 2030 strategic framework.

The Deputy Director: Transformations leads on the strategic-change & practical management of the Barber's forthcoming capital works programme. They will work closely with project managers in the University Estate's teams & with colleagues at the Barber including the Head of Operations (whom the postholder line manages), ensuring that the programme is delivered to the highest standards. They will support the development of funding bids relating to the project & manage reporting & evaluation streams.

The Barber is working on a revised forward plan, visual identity & communications strategy that can better reflect its future ambitions. Working closely with the Comms & Marketing Manager (whom the postholder line manages) & the Head of Learning & Engagement, the postholder will lead the practical delivery.

The postholder will also support to reshape the organisation's business plans & income generation strategies.

  • Salary Range: £46,735 to £55,755, with potential progression to £62,728
  • Contract Type: Full-time, Fixed Term up to June 2027
